Young Life WildRidge Camp, Dining Hall

Inspired by the authenticity of people and place, and responsive to the dramatic river and ledge features of the landscape, the architectural concept proposed by Silling Architects for these projects takes on a rustic minimalist character meant to sit lightly on the WildRidge Camp property.  Simple and regionally contextual building forms, expressively honest detailing, and an intentional, natural weathering of locally familiar materials combine to communicate an iconic sense of place appropriate to the Gauley River Gorge rim.

Located near the camp arrival point, the Dining Hall will sit at the head of the open green space and provide constant orientation to the overall campus experience.  The long, comfortable front porch and cantilevered decks serve as a covered entry space for meal time while also providing large and small group gathering spaces.  The open dining room will also serve as the temporary Club Room for worship and is inspired by the simple volumes, geometries, and materials of the sawmills of the logging industry that formed the historic background of the Gauley River as a working natural feature in the landscape.
