Allegany County District Court

Located in downtown Cumberland, the Allegany County District Court project involved the adaptive reuse of a former one-story post office into a modern county courts facility. The project involved a second floor addition and renovations creating a total of 38,000 square feet of building area.

The District Court building provides additional county court, administrative, and other support space. The building program components include the District Court for Allegany County, Parole & Probation offices, Public Defender offices, Clerk’s offices and related site improvements. The project was a privately developed involving a highly collaborative effort between the developer, Allegany County, the District Court of the State of Maryland, Maryland Department of General Services, and the general contractor.

“It was a great pleasure to have worked with Silling on the new District Court of Maryland for Allegany County building. Their planning, knowledge of courthouse design and attention to detail on the exterior and interior design have made it one of the nicest and most functional courthouse in Maryland. The employees, bar and general public are all impressed with the new building.” – Kathy Stafford, Allegany County District Court
